Something of a Mystery
One of my favorite things…something about the fall leaves crunching
under my tires when I’m riding. One of life’s mysteries…the autumn
leaves. Why are they so beautiful? Could just die, turn brown and fall
to the ground. Instead, bright reds, oranges, yellows and greens from
mid October into November. I rode Saturday and Sunday and each time I
was taking it in. we have some lovely roads around the valley. And I
was lucky for good weather, bone chilling but skin warming. I am a bit
distracted and in want of direction. I look up sometimes and forget
where I am, have been thinking of something else for minutes and
minutes. Like when you wake up after a nap and wonder if you slept
through the night and into a new day. Another mystery. Where does the
time go?

What’s Simple Is True
It’s fall and the
leaves are changing color... it’s getting chilly in Eugene, OR
especially when the fog rolls in, hanging around all day. Sitting here
in my winter cap and wool sweater, hands, nose and toes freezing. Back
to the serious training this week after a 3-week break. Been enjoying
the beauty of fall in the woods of Oregon, doing a few hikes and
running crazy through the forest with friends. Thinking about next
season with lots of passion for the sport. Back and forth with myself,
can I afford to race another year? Truth is I won’t stop until I am
racing for the best team and a director who can show me how to win. I
just keep on making sacrifices with a feeling that there is something
inside me superior to circumstance. Without dreams, without risk
taking, we are just ordinary people. I will not be a failure.

Las Vegas Baby!
Arrived
on the scene on Tuesday, and jeeze what a scene it was, toting
resumes, business cards, and 7 pairs of shoes. Had a few meetings and
conferences to attend at Interbike, a convergence of stuff for the
bike geek in me. Made the mistake of wearing the wrong pair of shoes
on the first walk through the show on Wednesday. Story goes: Business
by day, party by night, bed late, fun exploring the various hotels,
restaurants and shops. Sushi, Italian, fine wine, Krispy Kremes at
3am, breakfast at the Pink Pony at 5am, all that …and it doesn’t come
cheap. Vegas is not for the poor bike racer. Maybe good to just go
ahead and insert my friend and loyal mate Becky Broeder’s Blog entries
here so you can see how crazy things can get:
